UNMISS donates laptops and registry materials to judiciary

By Sabri Dibaco

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has donated laptop computers and registry materials to the Judiciary of South Sudan.

This assistant aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and improving the delivery of judicial services across the country.

The donation included 10 laptop computers, 400 civil registry printing forms for judicial use, 400 criminal appeal registry forms, 200 deed registry books, 200 registry books for search certificates, 800 leasehold Form 13 documents, 800 forms for changes to town maps, 800 registry forms for search certificates, 800 assignment lease forms, 800 application forms for consent to assign, 900 envelopes for the Office of the Chief Justice, and 259 document files.

Speaking to the No. One Citizen newspaper, the Chief Administrator of the Judiciary of South Sudan, Alex Tombe Gregory, welcomed the support, describing it as a significant contribution to strengthening the work of the country’s judicial institutions.

“This is great support from UNMISS, and it is not the first time they have donated to the judiciary,” Tombe Gregory said.

He explained that before receiving the donation, several departments had been operating with outdated equipment and registry materials dating back to the Sudan era, which had affected efficiency in daily operations.

“Before this donation, we were using old equipment and materials from the Sudan period, but now this support will help the Judiciary carry out its work more smoothly and effectively,” Tombe Gregory said.

He thanked UNMISS for maintaining a strong partnership with the judiciary over the years, noting that the mission has consistently supported various departments within the institution.

“We appreciate UNMISS for their continued partnership because they have also been helping different departments within the judiciary. This support will contribute greatly to improving our services,” he added.

The judiciary expects the donated materials to improve records management, strengthen case processing systems, support land and registry documentation, and enhance administrative operations through increased use of digital technology.

UNMISS has continued to support South Sudan’s justice institutions as part of its broader mandate to promote peacebuilding, the rule of law, and institutional development. The mission has previously provided technical assistance, training, and logistical support to government institutions, including the judiciary, to strengthen access to justice and improve public service delivery.

The latest donation reflects the ongoing cooperation between UNMISS and the Judiciary of South Sudan aimed at modernising judicial operations, improving administrative efficiency, and enhancing the delivery of justice across the country.
