The Chairperson of Aweil East County in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State has been embarking on restricting the youth body structures across the 7 payams and the municipality of Majok-Yith-Thiou since early this week.
In a circular released to the public and seen by this outlet on Thursday, the Chairperson, Mr. David Adim, released a new order in which he relieved Mr. Joseph Garang Ayuel, of Maluial-baai payam, as the chairperson of Maluial-baai’s Youth Society and instead appointed Andrea Deng AKok.
In the circular, the president didn’t cite the reason for the relief but made the following statements.
“I, David Adim Maduok, Chairperson of the Aweil East County Youth Association, hereby relieve Mr. Joseph Garang Ayuel from his position as the Interim Chairperson of Malual Baai Payam Youth Society, effective from this 18th day of August 2026 AD,” the order read in part.
The Chairperson has also stated that the new successor for Mr. Garang Ayuel will be a new face, who will take on the roles immediately.
“Further, pursuant to the same constitutional provision, I hereby appoint Mr. Andrea Deng AKok as the Interim Chairperson of Malual Baai Payam Youth Society. From this 18th August, 2026 A.D., he shall assume all responsibilities and duties of the office until electoral processes are made and completed,” the order added.
Mr. David Adim also took congratulatory notes to the outgoing chairperson for Malualbaai Youth Society, saying he took a decision to relieve Mr. Joseph Garang Ayuel but recognize his services that he delivered to the youth during this tenure.
This trend has been ongoing since last week. Madhol Payam, close to Malualbaai, which are adjacent to each other, also had a new youth leader, Aguer Jaang, as the newly appointed Youth President of Madhol Payam, who then took the turn to structure his own executive body, followed by Majok-Yith-Thiou Municipality, where Simon Lual was also appointed as the Youth Chairperson for the Majok-Yith-Thiou Municipal Council, which borders Sudan.
Some speculate that the new leadership being affected or established by the Aweil East Youth Association is part of efforts to consolidate the youth base on the ground ahead of elections, though some youth cite a lack of transparent processes in appointing the leaders, as some missteps have been made.
