The Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports has officially confirmed the results of the Aweil North County Youth Association elections, declaring the process as lawful and urging young people to unite behind the newly elected leadership.
The election was held on June 6, 2026, at Gok-Machar, the headquarters of Aweil North County, where delegates elected a new county youth executive. According to an official letter issued by the ministry and obtained by this publication, the election was conducted in full compliance with the constitutional provisions governing youth association elections.
The ministry said the electoral process was supervised by the authorised electoral committee in accordance with Articles 30 and 47 of the Youth Union Constitution, making the outcome legitimate and binding.
“The leadership of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has officially confirmed the Aweil North County Youth Association election results held on June 6, 2026, based on the relevant constitutional provisions governing county youth elections,” the ministry said.
The confirmation follows reports that some youth members questioned the outcome and called for the election to be nullified. However, the ministry dismissed those claims, emphasising that it neither authorised nor supported any attempt to cancel the results.
“The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports has distanced itself from any claims regarding the cancellation of the election results,” the statement added.
According to the official tally, Victor Wol Manyuon was elected chairperson after securing 31 votes, defeating his closest challenger, who garnered 16 votes. The ministry said the results were announced by the electoral committee after all required procedures had been duly followed.
The ministry further warned against attempts to undermine the democratic process, stressing that the election was conducted transparently and in accordance with government regulations.
“The Ministry hereby confirms that the Aweil North County Youth Association election was conducted and concluded in accordance with the applicable electoral procedures and government regulations,” the statement said.
In a letter signed by the Director General of the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Peter Aguer Achier, the ministry called on all candidates, members of the electoral committee, youth leaders, and stakeholders to accept the election outcome and work together for the benefit of young people in the county.
“The ministry calls upon all candidates, members of the electoral committee, youth leaders, and stakeholders to respect the democratic process, uphold peace and unity, and cooperate with the duly elected leadership in advancing the development and welfare of the youth of Aweil North County,” the letter stated.
The ministry pledged to work closely with the newly elected leadership to implement youth development programs, strengthen youth participation in governance and community development, and promote peaceful coexistence.
It also urged young people across Aweil North County to embrace democratic values, support leaders elected through transparent and lawful processes, and remain united, noting that youth solidarity is essential for sustainable development and lasting peace.
