BoSS staff resume work after Union engagement

By Deng Athian

Staff of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) have resumed work after the institution’s workers’ union engaged employees and took responsibility for following up on their concerns.

A source at the Central Bank told this publication that William Madut Akol, Chairperson of the BoSS Workers’ Union, informed staff that the union leadership had met with the bank’s management and agreed to suspend the sit-in strike for a period of ten working days.

“Our workers’ leadership sent an email to all staff informing them to resume work because the bank’s leadership has promised to address the grievances within the agreed working days,” a senior staff member told this publication.

The decision comes a day after BoSS employees staged a peaceful protest demanding payment of their outstanding allowances, including unpaid arrears for 2025 and six months of 2026, which included medical activation of medical insurance, among others.

The protest followed a two-week ultimatum issued by staff to the bank’s administration to clear the pending allowances.

Responding to the industrial action, BoSS Governor Hon. Johnny Ohisa Damian described the protest as politically motivated, saying the country’s economic challenges are a national issue affecting various sectors.

The governor, however, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to addressing staff welfare concerns and finding solutions to the outstanding obligations.
