A center meant for education in Aweil is ready to welcome its first batch of 1,500 children selected under the National Scholarship Program for Orphans, Disadvantaged Children, and Children of War Veterans from across South Sudan.
The centre, established to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for vulnerable children, has completed major infrastructure works, including accommodation blocks, classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, and welfare facilities.
Mr. Akoch Manhiem Akuei, director in the Office of Presidential Envoy Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit, said the centre has reached the final stage of preparation ahead of the arrival of the first intake of students.
Akoch said final arrangements are underway to ensure the facility is fully prepared to receive beneficiaries from all ten states and the three administrative areas.
The centre is expected to provide children with access to quality education, accommodation, and essential welfare services in a modern and supportive learning environment.
The National Scholarship Program was launched in February 2026 by Presidential Envoy Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit to expand access to education for vulnerable children and promote national cohesion through learning.
The program is being implemented by Corner Vision Academy in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Aweil, and targets orphans, disadvantaged children, and children of war veterans across South Sudan.
The opening of the centre marks a major step in the government’s efforts to support vulnerable children and create opportunities for them to pursue education and contribute to the country’s future development.
