Torit Caretaker Commissioner Eddy William Ponsiano personally led a late-night security operation that resulted in the arrest of a suspected gunman accused of killing a woman and injuring a 12-year-old boy in Hiyala.

The commissioner said he left Torit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and travelled to Illoli, returning at around 11:00 p.m. after overseeing the operation that secured the suspect and evacuated the victims.

The woman, identified as Aku, died after being shot, while Jackson, 12, sustained gunshot wounds.

Ponsiano said the deceased’s body was transported from Hiyala to Haforiere for burial arrangements, while the injured boy was rushed to Torit State Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

The suspected shooter was brought back to Torit and is now being held in police custody as investigations continue.

Ponsiano said the operation demonstrates the municipal administration’s commitment to responding swiftly to violent crime and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.

He also urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting criminal activities to help maintain peace and security across the municipality.
