Juba County caretaker commissioner, Kalisto Lado Faustino Wani, has issued a written order banning the display of coffins outside shops and the practice of witchcraft activities in the county, formalising measures he had previously announced verbally.
In the order, the commissioner also prohibited witchcraft activities and restricted business operations along streets and bridges in the county.
The directives, issued on October 27, 2026, outline penalties for individuals and businesses that fail to comply with the new regulations.
“Under Local Order No. 12/2026, coffin dealers are prohibited from displaying coffins in front of their shops, while witchcraft activities are banned across Juba County,” the order read.
The order warns that anyone found violating the directives would face administrative fines of not less than 3.5 million South Sudanese pounds (SSP).
“Authorities may also confiscate items involved in the violations, and offenders could face arrest and prosecution before competent courts of law,” the statement read.
