The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has begun issuing application forms to party members aspiring to contest for gubernatorial, parliamentary and other political positions in Western Equatoria State ahead of its upcoming party congresses and primary elections.
The exercise, which started on Saturday, November 1, is being conducted at the SPLM State Secretariat in Yambio, where interested party members can obtain application forms to participate in the party’s internal electoral processes.
The development follows the arrival of an SPLM national advanced team in Yambio two days earlier, led by Makuc Aru Luac, the party’s National Secretary for State and Membership Affairs, accompanied by Angelina Maker and other delegates.
On Friday, the delegation met Western Equatoria State Caretaker Governor and SPLM leader, Hon. Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa, to brief him on the planned activities and preparations for the exercise.
Speaking during the engagement, Makuc said the team was in the state to mobilise party members and coordinate the restructuring of SPLM structures from the grassroots to the state level.
He said the exercise would cover boma, payam, county and state structures, while also facilitating the issuance of application forms to members interested in contesting for various political positions through the party’s primary elections.
Meanwhile, SPLM Western Equatoria State Secretary David Simbi said the state was ready for the exercise and urged interested party members to prepare for the forthcoming congresses and primaries.
Simbi called on party members aspiring for leadership positions to take advantage of the ongoing process and participate in the party’s internal preparations.
The exercise comes as the SPLM prepares to organise its internal party structures and select candidates ahead of the forthcoming political contests.
The party congresses and primary elections are expected to provide an opportunity for members to compete for positions within the party and determine those who will represent the SPLM in the upcoming electoral process.
The restructuring exercise is also aimed at strengthening party organisation and mobilising members at different administrative levels across Western Equatoria State.
