Authorities in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State, have called on companies operating in the area to contribute to community development as part of their corporate social responsibility.

The appeal came during the inauguration of a new kitchen facility constructed by Karnak Tobacco Factory at Yei Civil Hospital.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner of Yei River County, Emmanuel Taban Seme, commended the company for building the facility, which will provide patients and their families with a safe and hygienic place to prepare food.

“Most companies in Yei are supposed to deliver development services to the citizens rather than only taking resources from the county,” Commissioner Taban said.

Dr. Morbe Taban, Director of Yei Civil Hospital, welcomed the project, noting that previously many patients and caretakers were forced to cook under trees, leaving them exposed to rain and making it difficult to prepare meals on time.

“We are very happy for the support from Karnak Tobacco Factory, because this kitchen will improve the welfare of our patients and their families,” Dr. Taban said.

The founder of Karnak Tobacco Factory, John Peter, pledged continued support to the community. He revealed that the company is also planning to construct a mortuary at Yei Civil Hospital to help preserve bodies before burial.

He further emphasized the importance of peace and unity in fostering development across Yei.

Community member Mama Hawa Adam applauded the initiative, describing it as a positive example of cooperation between the private sector and government.

She suggested that the company’s leadership is recognized for its contribution to development.
