The Director General of the NCA, Gieth Kon Mathiang, said digital payment systems play a significant role, as they ease the transaction anywhere.

He assured the South Sudanese of digital payment’s efficiency and reliability, as it lowers costs for the businesses and consumers.

According to DG, once adopted, the digital payment will help prevent the risks associated with carrying cash.

“This system is reliable and secure, and above all, the risks associated with carrying cash would be addressed. The risks are, for example, theft and loss of cash. The digital payment system will help our people when traveling outside the country because they will be doing the transaction through the debit card rather than carrying cash. This can help, especially in the international networking, like when attending the conferences outside South Sudan,” he said.

Akum David Sabahker, the Director of the National Payment System, Bank of South Sudan, expresses readiness to soon launch the digital payment system.

Mr. Akum appealed to the people of South Sudan to adopt the system, saying it’s a way to contribute to economic growth and increase market efficiency by facilitating trade.

Mr. Akum said they started engagement with the relevant authorities, such as financial institutions, telecommunication networks, and mobile money operators.

Both officials were speaking in a preparatory meeting for the launch of the National Payment System between the Bank of South Sudan and NCA institutions.
