The Commissioner of Yei River County, Emmanuel Taban Seme, on Wednesday marked the first anniversary of his tenure since assuming office on 20 August 2024.
The commemoration, held in Yei town, brought together community members, heads of departments, religious leaders, civil society representatives, traditional authorities, security officials, development partners, and media outlets from both Yei and Juba.
In his address, Commissioner Taban reflected on achievements and challenges over the past year. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting peace, strengthening security, and improving service delivery in the county.
Several community leaders also shared their views during the event. Arikanjilo Modi, a civil society representative, commended the commissioner for supporting peace and development initiatives. He urged state authorities to maintain consistency in leadership, warning that frequent changes of commissioners can disrupt progress.
Antony Dicko, a landowner in Yei, described the anniversary as a moment for residents to reflect on the county’s achievements, encouraging the commissioner to continue prioritizing development.
Traditional leader Paramount Chief Joseph Brown Lo Mosee also expressed appreciation for efforts to rehabilitate public facilities, improve roads, and address challenges such as stray animals in Yei town. He cautioned that abrupt changes in leadership may create uncertainty for citizens.
The anniversary event was seen as an opportunity for dialogue between the county administration and residents, with participants highlighting the importance of stability, accountability, and continued service delivery in the region.
Further updates on the commissioner’s plans are expected to be released by the Office of the Commissioner in the coming days.
