President Salva Kiir Mayardit has praised the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) for their dedication to maintaining peace, security, and stability throughout the country.
According to the statement obtained from the Presidential press unit (PPU), President’s commendation came after he was briefed on Thursday by the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Gen. Chol Thon Balok, on the general security situation.
During the briefing, Gen. Thon provided an update on recent border disputes between South Sudan and its neighbours.
He assured President Kiir that the SSPDF remains steadfast in its constitutional duty to protect the country’s territorial integrity, its people, and their property.
The minister noted that despite recent isolated incidents, overall security conditions have remained stable, and the army is fully prepared to continue its mission.
In response, President Kiir lauded the SSPDF’s leadership and soldiers for their efforts in upholding law and order. He commended the military for its discipline and unwavering commitment to stability, reaffirming the government’s steadfast support for the army’s mission.
The President’s meeting with the defence minister takes place amid persistent security challenges in various parts of the country, including inter-communal conflicts and concerns over border security.
While the government has consistently affirmed its commitment to the 2018 revitalized peace agreement, the security briefing underscore the ongoing need for military vigilance.
The SSPDF, as the national army, plays a crucial role in managing these challenges and ensuring the protection of civilians and national borders.
