Commissioner of National Revenues Authority Pledges Support to Church in Aweil

The Commissioner General of the National Revenues Authority, William Anyuon Kuol, has pledged to extend a helping hand to St. George Catholic Church in Aweil Town, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, during Christmas Day Mass celebrations.

Addressing the congregation, Anyuon emphasized the importance of mutual support during the festive season, describing it as a time of forgiveness and healing, deeply rooted in catechism and evangelism.

“As we have heard in the scriptures read by the clergymen, it touches all of us. We are tasked to act positively and humanely through Godly ways,” he assured.

“All of us are asked to be God-fearing people. Christ’s mission on earth was about salvation, and we must live it out by forgiving and reconciling with one another.”

Earlier, Anyuon responded to questions raised by church members, who appealed for contributions to help rejuvenate the historic Catholic church, long considered ancestral to Aweil.

“All of us who have come from Juba with the new Governor have something to contribute to this historic church, which has produced hundreds of Aweil sons and daughters who now serve in leadership,” he said.

“I cannot announce figures today, but the committee responsible for fundraising such as constructing the fence and rehabilitating other facilities should approach me. On behalf of the team, I will provide financial support,” he pledged.

On a political note, Anyuon conveyed greetings from President Salva Kiir to the Aweil community and urged patience as the country prepares for elections.

“Elections are coming, and it is incumbent upon all of us to change the face of the nation by voting for leaders we believe can make decisions for the country,” he stated.

While his commitment to the church was warmly received, questions remain about whether the new Commissioner will also tackle the broader economic challenges facing South Sudan.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, a large entourage traveled to Marial-baai Payam in Aweil West County, where elites of Northern Bahr El Ghazal gathered for a thanksgiving ceremony honoring sons of the region recently appointed by President Kiir Mayardit.

Among them were William Anyuon Kuol and the newly installed Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, Charles Madut Akol.
