The authorities of Wildlife in Jonglei State have warned the poachers against illegal poaching of animals.
According Wildlife official, different species of wildlife migrated Eastern corridors of Jonglei and moved westward in search of pastures and water during the onset of dry season; where they encounter dramatic poaching.
“These Wildlife are beautiful creatures of God and they deserved to be protected by us—when they are killed at random, it’s inhuman. Gods have entrusted with the stewardship of these creatures. Wildlife is very important, and you can see landscape” he said
Speaking to this Publication, Maj. Gen. Zackaria Atem Manyok stated that have launched a crackdown on the poaching of wildlife.
Maj. Gen. Atem emphasized wildlife is one of natural resources in South Sudan and it can provide incomes to the government through Tourism and can also be good for ecosystem when protected properly.
“In this regard, the Wildlife can be food and can generate government’s revenues and therefore they need to be protected. Where shall we get this Wildlife for future generation when we tend to finish them now through poaching, it’s not good. Atem said.
He said the Wildlife officers have been stationed are four locations in Bortown to monitor poaching activities within the town citing that most of the poachers have commercialized the Poaching which he said can endanger the life of Wildlife.
“These days we are approaching them, I mean the poachers peacefully, we are negotiating them and in the long run, we want to convert these poachers are gam rangers” he said.
Mr. Atem stressed that directorate of Wildlife and African Park are ready to train the illegal Poachers on the self-reliance skills that would help them make their living without depending on Poaching as a mean of survival only.
For the past two years, despite efforts from Wildlife conservation and Tourism in Jonglei to protect the illegal poaching, Illegal Poaching still remains a great phenomenon facing Wildlife in the State. Following the Economic Hardship in the Country, Many poachers have tended to poaching citing that it’s a mean to feed their families.
