Morobo County Hosts Fifth Annual Cultural Gala to Promote Peaceful Coexistence

By James Innocent
Morobo County authorities, in partnership with the ACROSS organization, on Saturday held the county’s fifth annual cultural gala aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and preserving cultural heritage.
The event, organized under the theme “Cultural Participation for Peaceful Coexistence,” brought together residents from across Morobo County and featured traditional dances, songs, and storytelling representing the area’s diverse communities.
The gala was attended by the County Executive Director, Ezbon Gale, who served as the chief guest, alongside county administrators, traditional chiefs, and community leaders.
Addressing participants, senior county administrator Jackson Baker highlighted the role of cultural activities in revitalizing Morobo’s traditions, which he said are gradually declining, particularly among young people.
He urged residents to take an active role in cultural events and to preserve their cultural identity, stressing that traditions are central to social cohesion and community values.
“This event is fundamental in rejuvenating our culture. Our traditions define who we are, and it is important that the younger generation reconnects with their roots,” Baker said.
In his remarks, Executive Director Ezbon Gale commended ACROSS organization for its continued support in promoting cultural awareness and strengthening unity among local communities.
He said cultural gatherings such as the gala help educate young people about their history, customs, and social values, contributing to peaceful coexistence within the county.
However, Gale cautioned against over-reliance on non-governmental organizations in organizing cultural activities.
He called on traditional authorities, led by the Paramount Chief, to take greater responsibility in spearheading cultural initiatives, while assuring them of support from the county government.
The event concluded with calls from community leaders and elders for unity, cultural pride, and increased participation in efforts to preserve Morobo County’s cultural heritage.
