When Nile water becomes an enemy to us

By: Ayuel Mangok Angui

We human beings are born to live and die, because of the sin that we had inherited from Adam and Eve, and our death is a plan from God, and we die in different ways that anyone of us cannot be blamed, when the time of his /her death comes.

River Nile, which is the main source of water for drinking, and other businesses benefitting the residents living in Juba City has also become the main source of death to the people living in the capital Juba.

There were three young girls who had taken permission from their relatives in order to go for the mango fruits harvesting in the last month of this year. Those girls left their home at one O’clock in the afternoon, and they had never returned back since their departure according to the statement released by the family members.

According to the report, reported to me by the family, they had searched them everywhere until they came to find their clothes together with the green mangoes on the bank of River Nile, which was an indication sign showing that the three wanted girls had drowned in the river.

According to my assumption, the girls drowned were taking shower in the river after they had been hit by the heat of the burning sunshine of January, while they didn’t know that their death was hiding in the Nile water and was waiting to caught them for punishment.

As a result, the truth came to pass when one body was found rotten, and floating on the surface of water along the side of River Nile, and the two bodies are not found until now. The names of those girls who had died were Ading Nyuol Ayai, Abuk Kuol Yal, and Nyanut Dut Chok.

According to the reported statistic of their ages, Ading was sixteen, Abuk was thirteen, and Nyanut was fourteen years, and the three of them were in-law and kinfolk to Deng Majok.

The three deceased girls were under the care of Deng Majok Ajang, and his wife Ajok Nyuol Ayai, and the whole of the families are residents of Mapaw, which is the newly occupied area in Juba.

To trace back from the place of origins in South Sudan, the three girls came from Bahr-El- Gazal region, and were from Warrap state, and were residents of Akoc payam in Twic county. The incident I have reported in the citizen newspaper in order to notify the public had happened last month on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

In addition, I hereby to convey my condolence message to the bereaved family of the departed girls, because God gives and God takes his own people at his own right time, yet we have hope to get more in the next chance.

As a matter of fact, I am writing to inform the public in Juba that River Nile water has become an enemy to us and we have to take care of ourselves together with our children.
