Authorities in Yei River County have confirmed ongoing security operations following reported cattle raids and violent incidents in several parts of the county over the past five days.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, the Office of the Commissioner said the county had received reports of forceful looting and attacks allegedly carried out by suspected cattle raiders in areas including Mapoko, Goli, Jansuk, Gimunu, Pokula, and Giru.

According to the statement, more than 200 herds of cattle were reportedly raided. In addition to cattle theft, the attackers are accused of looting goats and sheep, destroying farmlands, vandalizing property, and intimidating civilians.

County authorities stated that despite previous resolutions and agreements regarding peaceful relocation, the suspected raiders have continued their activities, posing what officials described as a serious security threat to residents.

During an attempt by organized security forces to stop the raids in Giru on Saturday night, two soldiers were killed and two others sustained injuries.

The County Government extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured personnel.

Commissioner Emmanuel Taban Seme strongly condemned the reported acts, describing them as criminal and detrimental to peace, stability, and development in the county.

The county government announced the formation of a Mobile Security Task Force mandated to pursue those responsible, ensure accountability, and facilitate their removal from the area.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security forces. Citizens were advised not to take the law into their own hands but to report any suspicious movements or incidents to relevant authorities.

The County Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while working to restore peace and normalcy in the affected areas.
