At least four people were killed and seven others injured in a violent cattle-raiding incident in Tonj South County, authorities in Warrap State have confirmed.

The attack, which also resulted in the theft of 13 cattle, has been strongly condemned by the state government.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the state Minister of Information, Mamer Both Marol, described the perpetrators as “enemies of peace” and expressed deep concern over the loss of lives.

“The government of Warrap State has learned with dismay of the unfortunate violent clashes that have left four people dead and seven wounded, as well as the theft of 13 cattle in the latest clashes in Tonj South County,” the statement partly read.

Marol said the government was deeply distressed by what he termed a senseless loss of life and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and those injured in the clashes.

“As the government of Warrap State, we strongly condemn the violent killings perpetrated by enemies of peace,” he said, urging those involved to refrain from further escalation.

He called on affected communities and families to remain calm as state and local authorities work to restore order and address the situation.

“We are equally calling on communities and families affected by this uncalled-for violence, theft and destruction to remain calm as state and local authorities resolve the matter,” the statement added.

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and harmony among communities across the state and assured the public, particularly victims of the violence, that action would be taken.

According to the statement, authorities will investigate the root causes of the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
