A detained Aweil East director for youth and sports who had been kidnapped and put in detention in the national security facility in Aweil in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state has been released.

Last week, Bulis Bol Chan was arrested at night in wanyjok Town by elements of the security operatives and was taken to unknown location.

He was later searched and found behind bars in the facilities of the national security in Aweil Town.

Relatives and friends said, the Commissioner of Aweil East County, Garang Thiang was behind the arbitrary of Bullis as he was seen commenting about the suspension of Aweil North Commissioner.

Mou said they have been engaging the state authorities for the whole week till he got released on Saturday.

“We have been engaging nationality security officials and went up to the Governor as a family and the friends of Bulis and the advocates of human rights including the speaker of the assembly, Abuk Jiel, was after this matter, so he was released on the orders of the Governor, Charles Madut Akol,” Gau said.

Gau said that Bullis Bol Chan had been working as a journalist for local media outlet, Akol Yam before he got into a role of a Director of Youth and Sports for Aweil East County, a role he lost while he was detained last week.

He appealed to the public figures to avoid being harsh whenever the local residents including the dissenting voices are being presented online or vocal regarding the public affairs.

“We advise the government not react negatively, these government officials are holding the government offices and are countable to the public issues, dialogue is important than arbitrary detention” he said.

He underscored that the former Director, Bullis is safe and the family members are glad for his release.

These arrests in Aweil East County have been bringing about fear and suspicion among the local youth as the youth leader, Thiep Akol Deng was put behind bars early this year due to the misunderstanding between the officials in the County.

This latest arrest has angered youth in the county, leaving people talking with mixed reactions for the commissioner’s actions on the public affairs.
