BoSS refutes alleged damage of SSP 3 trillion

By Sabri Dibaco

The management of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) has refuted reports alleging that rats destroyed 3 trillion South Sudanese pounds stored in bank facilities.

The institution described the information as false, fabricated, and misleading.

In a press statement seen on the official page of the Bank of South Sudan, the central bank said neither the governor nor any authorised representative had ever made such remarks and emphasised that the claim was entirely untrue.

“The management of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) has categorically and unequivocally rejected false and misleading information circulating online alleging that the governor stated that ‘rats have damaged 3 trillion South Sudanese Pounds in storage facilities, ‘” the statement reads

According to the bank, the allegation appears designed to spread misinformation and weaken public confidence in the country’s financial system and institutions.

The claim is entirely baseless, fabricated, and deliberately misleading and appears intended to spread misinformation and undermine public confidence in the institution and the financial system.

“The bank condemned the circulation of unverified information and appealed to media organisations, content creators, and social media users to exercise responsibility before sharing information related to financial institutions,” the statement partly reads.

BoSS further advised the public to disregard the allegation completely and avoid amplifying content that misrepresents facts.

“The bank strongly condemns the spread of unverified and false information and urges the public, media houses, and social media users to disregard these unfounded allegations in their entirety. It further advises the public to avoid sharing or amplifying content that distorts facts and contributes to misinformation,” the statement read in part.

The institution reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, financial stability, and responsible communication in the public interest. Bank officials emphasised that all official announcements and policy updates are issued strictly through authorised and verified platforms.

The statement follows the circulation of claims on social media alleging that a large amount of South Sudanese currency had allegedly been destroyed by rodents in storage facilities and attributed the remarks to the governor of the Bank of South Sudan.

The central bank has now publicly rejected the claim and called on the public to verify information through official channels before sharing it.
