The Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore has directed the reopening of Ilieu Primary School in Torit County, stressing that education remains central to the future of Eastern Equatoria State.
According to the governor’s press unit, the directive was issued during a community engagement event in Ilieu village, Tuhubak Boma, Torit County on Wednesday September 25, 2025, where the Governor launched a grassroots campaign to support the rehabilitation of the Torit–Kapoeta road.
In a statement from the Governor’s press unit, the reopening of the school is part of broader efforts to revitalize essential public services in Eastern Equatoria. “We cannot talk about development without education. Reopening Ilieu Primary School will give our children a brighter future,” Governor Lobong said in a statement.
The school had been closed for an extended period due to infrastructural challenges and limited resources. Its reopening is expected to benefit dozens of children in the surrounding communities, many of whom have been out of school since the closure.
He called on parents, teachers, and community leaders to ensure that children return to classrooms and take full advantage of the renewed opportunity and also praised Ilieu for its long-standing record of peace and hospitality, saying the village had created an environment where education can thrive.
The reopening of Ilieu Primary School comes at a time when the state is working to expand access to basic education, particularly in rural areas that have faced prolonged disruptions due to insecurity and lack of resources.
Officials from the State Ministry of Education are expected to coordinate with local authorities and the community to prepare the school for immediate resumption of classes.
