KOANG: Assumes Deputy Defense docket

By Yiep Joseph

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed Gen. Koang Choul as the deputy minister of defense and veteran affairs.

The changes were made through a presidential decree readout on the state-owned broadcaster, the SSBC.

Koang was recently relieved from the position of the Upper Nile governor.

After his relief, he retreated back to Juba just a few days before his appointment.

In a similar development, the president relieved Deng Alor Kuol as minister of East African Affairs and appointed Beny Gideon Mabor in his place.

Beny was recently serving as the undersecretary in the ministry of East African Affairs.

The head of state, who also served as the Commander in Chief of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), in a separate decree transfer made changes in the command of the presidential guard.

The president and the commander in chief of the forces promoted Baak Makuei to the rank of general and transferred him to head the presidential guards, the tiger division.

Makuei replaced Philip Nyon Nyon, who was previously commanding the forces.
