The Chairperson of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC), Maj. Gen. George Aggrey Owino, called for genuine implementation of the 2018 peace deal.
The chairperson made the remarks yesterday during the RJEMC extraordinary plenary.
He urged the parties to the 2018 peace agreement to act in good faith in order to pave the way for implementation.
Aggrey appealed to the parties to the peace agreement to use the peace monitors’ meetings as a venue to renew the call for unity, cooperation, and accountability.
He added that the extraordinary meeting remains a critical platform for assessing the current state of the revitalized peace agreement, reviewing progress, identifying challenges, and reaffirming collective commitment to peace in South Sudan.
“I urge the parties to act in good faith, prioritize the interests of all South Sudanese citizens, and renew their commitment to the R-ARCISS. Our collective efforts must strive for the cessation of hostilities, inclusive dialogue, building of trust, and an inclusive and prosperous South Sudan,” he said.
Aggrey appreciated the members for their participation, adding that continuous dialogue will result in peaceful existence.
“I wish to express my sincere appreciation to all the members of RJMEC for the constructive dialogue and invaluable insights shared throughout our discussions,” he expressed.
He further said that the deliberations have underscored the urgency of sustained political will, inclusive dialogue, and tangible actions to overcome the persistent obstacles that they face.
The chairperson emphasized the need to fast-track implementation of pending tasks, including transitional security arrangements, constitutional reforms, and preparations for credible elections, which remains paramount.
“I thank you all for your dedication, resilience, and partnership. May we depart from this meeting inspired and determined to urgently translate our deliberations into meaningful progress for the people of South Sudan,” he said.
He reiterated RJMEC commitment in ensuring that parties accept dialogue and progress with the implementation of the peace agreement.
