President Salva Kiir Mayardit has made major changes in his government, appointing new ministers and senior officials in a series of Republican Decrees read on the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Monday evening.

The President made the changes by appointing Dr. Bak Barnaba Chol as the new Minister of Finance and Planning, replacing Athian Diing Athian.

The President also made additional changes in the Office of the President. In another decree, Africano Monday was appointed Minister of Presidential Affairs, replacing Chol Mawut Ajongo.

In a separate decree, Tut Gatluak Manime was appointed Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs replacing Madut Dut Yel, a key advisory role within the Presidency.

In the military, the Commander-in-Chief of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) issued Republican Order No. 32/2025, appointing Lieutenant General Philip Nyuon Nyuon as Commander of the Tiger Division.

All the decrees were signed and issued under the hand and seal of the President in Juba on the 3rd day of November 2025, and take effect immediately.

The appointments are seen as part of President Kiir’s effort to strengthen government performance, promote accountability, and enhance coordination in key ministries.
