Over 20 Children Receive Baptism at St. Paul Chapel in Yei

By James Innocent

At least twenty children received baptism on Sunday at St. Paul Chapel under the Catholic Diocese of Yei.

This event marked a significant religious step for the Christian community in Yei River County, Central Equatoria State.

Presiding over the ceremony, the Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish and Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Yei during the baptism Father Joseph Arike, urged parents and guardians to give meaningful and positive names to their children, noting that names often carry values that shape character and identity as children grow.

Father Arike also encouraged parents to embrace hard work and avoid laziness, stressing that honest labor is essential for family survival and dignity.

He said those who work with commitment, even in poverty, often find fulfillment and joy in sharing what little they earn with their families, in line with Christian teachings.

In his homily, the Vicar General called on believers to support the needy, saying generosity attracts God’s blessings to families and communities.

He further observed that although South Sudan is rich in natural resources, corruption has contributed to widespread suffering, including delayed or unpaid salaries for many citizens.

Father Arike urged the faithful to focus their energy on agriculture and productive activities rather than engaging in theft or other actions that damage personal and community reputation.

He also emphasized the responsibility of parents to protect children from abuse and ensure their proper upbringing.

Speaking after the ceremony, Brown Nathaniel, the Head Catechist of Christ the King Parish under the Catholic Diocese of Yei, confirmed that 22 children had been registered and prepared for baptism at St. Paul Chapel.

Community members expressed hope that continued prayers and faith would help address the challenges facing Yei and the wider country, where many families continue to live in vulnerable conditions amid economic hardship.
