Minister Bush highlights 100-day achievements, and challenges

The Central Equatoria State Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Bush Buse, has called for increased support and cooperation from stakeholders, citing funding constraints.

He expressed inadequate funding and the ongoing liquidity crisis as major obstacles to the ministry’s efforts to deliver services and programs.

Presenting his 100-day performance report since assuming office, Minister Buse outlined several achievements recorded despite the challenges facing the ministry.

Among the key accomplishments highlighted were the reconstitution of the Youth and Sports Commission, enhanced stakeholder engagement, improvement of the ministry’s working environment, drafting of a five-year strategic plan, successful organisation of the state’s third youth convention, and the re-launch of the Youth Partnership Forum.

The minister also reported progress in mapping recreational spaces, with one playground successfully reclaimed, as well as the promotion of cultural and sporting activities across the state.

He further noted efforts to revitalise Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs and the successful deployment of a technical coach to China for advanced training through support from the National Ministry of Youth and Sports and the government of China.

However, Buse acknowledged that limited financial resources continue to hinder the implementation of several planned activities.

“Funding constraints, high expectations from the youth, and the liquidity crisis remain significant challenges that require greater support and cooperation from partners and stakeholders,” the statement partly read.

Looking ahead, the minister outlined priorities for the next 100 days, including the validation of the ministry’s five-year strategic plan, intensified resource mobilisation efforts, and the expansion of initiatives aimed at mapping, reclaiming, and protecting recreational and sports facilities throughout the state.

Other planned interventions include the development and implementation of policies on sports, culture, arts, and youth empowerment, as well as programs focused on job creation, skills training, and mentorship opportunities for young people.

Meanwhile, Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony commended Minister Buse for his performance and dedication during his first 100 days in office.

“The governor pledged continued support to the ministry and encouraged it to strengthen youth engagement through meaningful activities and partnerships”, it added.

He noted that the state government is working with development partners and international youth organisations to advance the youth agenda and create opportunities for young people across the state.

The report comes at a time when youth unemployment and limited recreational opportunities remain among the pressing concerns facing young people in Central Equatoria State.
