NEC airlifts election materials, equipment to states and administrative areas

By Lodu William Odiya

The National Elections Commission has begun airlifting voter registration books, supplementary forms, equipment (laminator machines), and voter registration kits to different states and administrative areas in its second batch.

The delivery follows the handover of the first batch to the Central Equatoria State High Elections Committee on Monday.

In a statement released by the NEC on Wednesday, 1,397 voter registration books were delivered to the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.

About 1,364 items were delivered to the Ruweng Administrative Area and seven hundred eighty-one to the Abyei Administrative Area.

“Voter registration helps eligible citizens exercise that right by enabling them to take part in choosing their leaders,” the NEC statement partly read.

Also, three thousand three hundred was dispatched to Unity State and six thousand eight hundred sixty-four to Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.

According to the NEC, it’s part of the Commission’s efforts to equip election teams in the states and administrative areas to carry out voter registration ahead of the general elections.

South Sudan’s struggle for freedom and self-determination gave our people the right to shape their own future.

As preparations continue, the Commission remains committed to making registration accessible to all eligible citizens, including women, young people, persons with disabilities and people living in remote communities.

The Commission calls on election officials, local authorities, civil society organisations, community leaders and the media to work together to share accurate information about where, when and how eligible citizens can register.

“We encourage citizens to follow official NEC announcements for registration dates, locations and requirements,” NEC continued.
