Warrap Governor calls for proper funding of states, Administrative Areas

By Alan Clement

The Governor of Warrap State, Bol Wek Agoth, has called on the national government to increase budgetary allocations to States and Administrative Areas, citing population disparities and urgent development needs.

His appeal came in a meeting with the Minister of Finance and Planning, Athian Ding Athian, on Wednesday September 17, 2025, where Governor Bol said additional resources were vital to address pressing challenges in health, education, infrastructure, and security across Warrap.

“The national Ministry of Finance and Planning should consider increasing budget allocations to States and Administrative Areas because of the large number of populations there as compared to Juba,” said Governor Bol according to a statement from the Department of Communication and Media at the MoFP.

According to the Department of Communication and Media MoFP, the discussions also touched on enhancing coordination between national and state authorities in project management, tax administration, and delivery of basic services.

The Governor also outlined pressing challenges facing Warrap, including poor health and education infrastructure, deteriorating roads, climate-related disasters, and persistent insecurity fueled by communal violence and the proliferation of arms.

He also noted the spill-over effects of conflict from neighboring Sudan and noted that his administration is promoting mental disarmament to encourage farming, trade, and sports as alternatives to armed conflict.

Despite these hurdles, Governor Bol reported that Warrap is experiencing a period of relative calm, attributing the stability to community engagement efforts. “Our administration is promoting mental disarmament to discourage armed conflict and encourage productive activities such as farming, local trade, and sports,” he said in a statement.

The Governor concluded by reaffirming his commitment to lobbying for support while in Juba. “I will keep knocking doors to mobilize any sort of support for my state,” he stated in statement issued by MoFP’s Communication and Media department.

The meeting underscores growing calls for fiscal decentralization and equitable resource distribution, as local governments grapple with development needs amid limited funding.
