The Governor of Central Equatoria State (CES), Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has called for calm in Mirikiyo Boma, Rokon Payam, following violent disputes between cattle herders and local farmers.
The Governor condemned the violence and urged the affected communities to remain patient while the government implements measures to address the root causes of the conflict. In a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Press Unit, Governor Adil directed the Commissioner of Juba, Emmanuel Tete Ezbon, to stabilize the area following incidents that resulted in loss of life and the displacement of residents.
“The Governor has re-directed the Commissioner to restore total security and has called for patience from the local population as the government implements tougher measures to quell the situation and bring the perpetrators to book,” the statement read in part.
State Security Advisor Angelo Daya noted that normalcy is returning to the area thanks to the efforts of security apparatus and a joint visit by the Commissioners of Juba and Terekeka.
The security team, operating under the Advisor’s guidance, was lauded by the Governor for their swift action in restoring peace. Displaced residents have been reassured of their safety and encouraged to return home as the farming season approaches. Furthermore, the State Government has directed the provision of humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations affected by the activities of negative elements in the region.
The conflict escalated between January 22 and 25, 2026, after cattle belonging to migratory herders were seized for damaging cassava farms. In retaliation, armed herders attacked the community, resulting in the death of at least one youth, the sexual assault of a woman, and dozens of injuries.
