CES sets preparations for Launching of Youth Union Convention

    By Alan Clement

Central Equatoria State, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Rita Dominic Lodu, has reconstituted the Steering Committee to organize the 3rd Central Equatoria State Youth Union Convention.

In a ministerial order seen by this outlet, the directive is grounded in Republican Decree No. 08/2022, Article 110(1) of the CES Transitional Constitution 2012 (as amended), and Section 7 of the Youth and Sports Commission Act, 2003.

“The committee shall serve for a maximum period of ninety (90) days from the day of its reconstitution,” the ministerial order stated, adding that it will be dissolved upon completion of the convention.

The nine-member team, chaired by Joel Lesuk Nelson, includes Eng. Marko John Sabsatian as Secretary General, Margret Federick Jubek as Finance Secretary, Phoebe Stephen Sebit for Information, Arkangelo Dumo Lokosang for Legal Affairs, and Gobo George Daniel for Counties Affairs, alongside three members.

According to the order, the committee will organize the convention, represent the Youth Union in official functions, and oversee preparations until the event concludes.

The Central Equatoria State Youth Union (CESYU) is the official youth body representing young people across the state, working in collaboration with the South Sudan National Youth Union.

Its conventions are pivotal forums where youth leaders debate policy, elect representatives, and set strategic priorities.

Past Equatoria‑wide youth conferences have emphasized unity, peacebuilding, and development, with grassroots associations feeding into the state union’s leadership.

With South Sudan’s population largely under 30, such gatherings are seen as critical to shaping the country’s future.

The upcoming 3rd convention is expected to provide a platform for dialogue between youth and government, reinforcing constitutional processes while amplifying young voices in governance.
