The Commissioner of Bor County in Jonglei State has urged the recent internally displaced persons seeking refuge in Yolakot and other areas in Awerial County in Lakes State to return to their homes in Bor citing that the security has improved at the corridors of Jonglei.
Last month, Thousands of people fled Bor town due to fear of violence between the SPLA-IO and SSPDF.
Speaking during his visit IDPS Camp in Mingkaman this week, Smauel Ateny Pech, the Commissioner of Bor County assured the Internally Displaced Persons that the South Sudan people defense forces have fully reclaimed the IOs based towns in the areas such as Yuai, Uror, Pathai, Nyirol, Pajut and that can grantee security normalcy.
“Upon my arrival to see you, I was deeply surprised to see this is the large number of people displaced in Bor. I don’t know it. Now that I have come, I truly see that our people have evacuated. Of course, the situation may bad.’’ Ateny said.
Hon. Pech emphasized that he would work jointly with Awerial County Commissioner to request the Humanitarian Partners to assist the displaced persons with emergency food assistance.
He assured that the government of South Sudan would be ready to ensure proper security for the residents living different parts of the Country.
“Well, when you ran here, it was because of fear- now as I see, the SSPDF has done a lot. They have again reclaimed the areas which were invaded by IOs- now the security is improved. With this case, I called upon all of you to know that you should return homes because there is no to suffer under the trees when your houses are free in Bor. He said.
Meanwhile, Hon. Mawut Garang, the Commissioner of Awerial County in lakes State stated pledged that the Internally Displaced Persons should settle freely at Awerial County lands without any hindrance.
“I am grateful to see you today, the Aliab and Bor are one people, and so, If any of them come here, we are ready to receive you. We shall inform the Partners about your situation and hereafter they may help you.” Mawut stated.
Mawut appealed to the host communities in Awerial County to embrace peaceful co-existence with newly internally displaced persons from Jonglei.
“I want to encourage all the communities to know that this people should be received and live with peacefully. You one people, I don’t want to hear issues among yourself. He emphasized.
According to UN, at least 20,000 internally displaced persons have been displaced across Jonglei State in the recent months following violence between SPLA-IO and SSPDF.
The internally displaced persons are currently seeking refuge in Duk, Poktap, Twic east, Bortown and Awerial County. Most of whom are reported to be women and Children-facing dire humanitarian situation.
