Yei training institute officials cite transport challenges as commissioner pushes for support

By James Innocent

Officials from the Yei Health Science Training Institute on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Yei River County, Samuel Henry Malimbo, where they presented challenges.

The official discusses cooperation between the county administration and the institution, as well as ongoing educational developments in the area.

During the meeting, the principal of the institute, Kuol Ajok, appreciated the county leadership for receiving the delegation and providing an opportunity to discuss challenges affecting the institution alongside its current progress and development plans.

Ajok said lack of mobility remains a major challenge facing the institute, noting that transport difficulties continue to affect the movement of staff and day-to-day operations.

“Inadequate transport continues to limit our operations and affects the movement of both staff and institutional activities,” he explained.

In his remarks, Commissioner Malimbo encouraged the institute to consider providing scholarship opportunities to students from Yei River County in order to improve access to education and professional health training within the community.

The commissioner also emphasised the importance of continued cooperation between the county administration and the institution despite existing challenges, saying collaboration is essential for strengthening education and healthcare services in the county.

Meanwhile, the Academic Registrar of the institute, Michael Malish, commended the county commissioner for maintaining cooperation with the people of Yei and supporting engagement with local institutions.

Malish stated that the delegation had visited the commissioner’s office to express appreciation and brief the county leadership on the institute’s ongoing activities in Yei River County.

In a related development, Commissioner Malimbo informed the officials that a committee tasked with assessing the establishment of a university in Yei is expected to visit the area soon to inspect premises formerly used by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.

The proposed university initiative is expected to expand higher education opportunities in the region and support ongoing efforts to improve professional training and academic development in Central Equatoria State.
