President Salva Kiir Mayardit has renewed South Sudan’s engagement in efforts to promote peace and dialogue in Sudan.
Kiir reaffirmed Juba’s commitment to playing a constructive role in supporting a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Sudan.
Kiir committed on Monday when he met General Mini Arko Minawi, governor of Sudan’s Darfur Region, in Juba for discussions on the ongoing conflict, regional stability, and prospects for renewed political dialogue.
According to the statement from the presidential press unit, the meeting underscores South Sudan’s continued willingness to engage Sudanese stakeholders and use its longstanding relationships to encourage dialogue, understanding, and peaceful political solutions.
President Kiir stressed the deep historical, economic, and social ties between the two neighbouring nations, emphasising that the future of Sudan and South Sudan remains closely interconnected.
“The meeting reflects South Sudan’s continued willingness to draw on its historical experience and established relationships with Sudanese stakeholders in support of dialogue and peaceful efforts to resolve the conflict,” the statement partly read.
South Sudan’s own experience of conflict and peace negotiations gives Juba a unique perspective on the importance of sustained political engagement.
President Kiir has consistently emphasised the value of dialogue and peaceful negotiation in addressing complex political differences.
The engagement with General Minawi demonstrates Juba’s readiness to remain involved in efforts that can contribute to peace and stability in Sudan.
By maintaining channels of communication with Sudanese stakeholders, South Sudan is positioning itself as a neighbour prepared to support dialogue while respecting Sudanese ownership of the peace process.
President Kiir’s renewed engagement also reflects South Sudan’s broader commitment to regional peace and stability.
Juba recognises that the continued conflict in Sudan carries consequences beyond its borders, affecting humanitarian conditions, regional security, and economic prospects.
