By Lodu William Odiya

‎At least 4,821 SPLM members have been registered in Lafon County, Eastern Equatoria State, following the official launch of the membership registration campaign and mobilisation exercise.

‎According to the Eastern Equatoria State SPLM secretariat, the number was confirmed during a membership registration campaign and mobilisation rally presided over by the SPLM State Secretariat delegation led by the State Assistant Secretary for Research and Training, Cde. Ruth Marious Buga.

‎Addressing the gathering, Cde. Ruth emphasised that peace and reconciliation are prerequisites for peaceful elections. She tasked the County Chairperson and Caretaker Commissioner, Cde. Orupi David, to create a conducive environment for the electoral process and for all political parties to exercise their political rights without interference.

‎The SPLM State Youth League Chairperson, Pio Lodovic Oryem, called upon the youth to promote peace.

‎He tasked them to work together with women to support the country in enhancing security, urging young people to prepare for the elections and to safeguard the 20% youth representation in party and government structures.

‎The SPLM State Women’s League representative, Hadija Clement, encouraged women to participate fully in the electoral process through mass registration.

Cde. Clement further stressed that the 35% affirmative action for women must be fully realised, and this can only be achieved through active participation and registration.

‎County Chairperson Orupi David assured the delegation that Lafon is purely a South Sudan People’s Liberation Movement party.

“I am here to prepare the ground holistically for peaceful and credible elections. I welcome all political parties to exercise their political rights,” he said.

The delegation was tasked by the State Secretariat to carry out membership registration campaigns and mobilisation, supervise the registration exercise, clear doubts, and create awareness on election preparedness, and to promote peaceful coexistence and reconciliation to ensure a stable and peaceful atmosphere ahead of the general election slated for December 2026.
