Jonglei State Governor, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, has launched clearing and construction of wrestling sport ground.
The initiative is aimed at promoting unity in sport among the communities in the state.
According to the governor’s press unit, the new wrestling initiatives was launched on Monday with hope to ease wrestling activities in the state.
Speaking in Pakaw, Jonglei state during the launch of a new state-owned wrestling initiative, Governor Riek said his administration is determined to put in place structures and programs that will positively impact citizens.
“With the structures and programs, we are about to put in place, to inject life in all people-oriented sectors. My message to you today is that Jonglei State is on a pedestal for greatness,” the governor declared.
Riek emphasized that his administration’s strategy is built on practical economic activities designed to yield tangible benefits for the people. Central to the plan is the promotion of traditional wrestling as a unifying force across Jonglei and neighboring states.
He noted that the wrestling initiative would serve as a tool for social cohesion, bringing together the people of Jonglei and neighboring states stating that the state has been trying to put up workable plans aligned with its transformation agenda based on current realities. “We can say boldly that sincerely, we have started the journey of the people’s development mantra,” Governor Riek stated.
Governor Riek also expressed gratitude to the citizens for entrusting him with leadership, pledging to deliver inclusive growth and transformation. “After moving round to ascertain its current state, what I can tell you, expect the birth of a new Jonglei and this will happen in not too long a distant time. In fact, Jonglei will soon attest that she is alive again,” he said.
The launch event was attended by the state minister for Cabinet Affairs, the Minister for Roads and Bridges, the Minister for Youth and Sports, the Town Mayor, County Commissioners, military officials, and other dignitaries.
